(Tested) 10 Best YouTube Video Downloaders for Android in 2020

YouTube has tough policies, but it can’t stop people from downloading the content. I tested 19 YouTube downloaders on Android and only ten could work. The blog post is going to explore those all-time best YouTube video downloaders for Android in 2020.

Disclosure: Even though the post covers below apps, but it is against YouTube’s policies to download videos unless there is a download button next to the video.

YMusic is the first and possibly the best YouTube video downloader app for Android. The app lets you play videos in the background, download video and audio songs quickly, create playlists, browse top songs, add videos to the queue and more. The app comes with its own interface and it is easy to use.

Pros

  1. Comes with a unique interface.
  2. You can rewind playlists.

The app allows watching and downloading videos for free. You can watch a video or play it as an audio. GetTube app comes with both audio and video options to download videos for YouTube. Make sure you are using the latest version (0.9.3*), as the older versions do not download videos. I tried downloading using an older version, the app kept showing “Unable to extract video links. Video may not be available.”.

Pros

  1. The app is easy to use. You have three tabs: browser, search, and downloads.

Cons

  1. None.

NewPipe

Undoubtedly one of the best YouTube video downloaders for Android. The app shows many ads, but it can download videos without any issues. You can also download in private mode which requires a password every time someone tries to view the downloads.

Pros

  • It offers a private mode.

Cons

  • The app requires location permissions for advertisement purposes.

KeepVid Video Downloader

The app only requires storage permission and runs smoothly. The only problem I found is, even the app is closed the notification is visible. KeepVid supports many websites, and it comes with a different interface.

Pros

  • KeepVid doesn’t require any significant permissions.

Cons

  • Notification is visible all the time.

TubeMate

The app comes with tutorials to explain how to use the app. By default, you see YouTube, but in the right menu, there are other websites. The app supports copy to download option, which means you have to copy the video URL from Facebook, Instagram, etc., and the app will automatically paste the URL and shows you the download options.

Pros

  • The app does not show many ads.
  • TubeMate comes allows browsing multiple websites at the same time.

Cons

  • The app requests location permission.

Dentex YouTube Downloader

The APK is less than 5 MB, but it downloads a plugin to download videos. It offers a unique interface and the query you type goes straight onto YouTube. Furthermore, when you tap on a video, it doesn’t play, it shows the download qualities available. To play the video, you can touch on the video on the download page.

Pros

  • Unique design.
  • Dentex YouTube downloader can convert the videos into MP3.

Cons

  • It downloads a plugin to download the videos.

YouTube Go

Did you know, there is an official YouTube video downloading app for Android? The app is available in over 130 countries in the Middle East, South America, Africa, and parts of Asia. The app is not available in the U.S, a few countries in Europe, Australia and others. Anyway, the app allows watching and downloading videos on the go. The lightweight app offers to download and store songs in the SD card, control over data and more.

Pros

  1. A legal app to download videos.
  2. Lightweight and fast.

Cons

  1. Not available in many countries.

Snaptube

The second last best YouTube video downloader is Snaptube. It isn’t the best, but the app is good for occasional usage. Snaptube Downloader is a great YouTube video downloader for Android. The app has own interface where you can search for a video, check trending videos and see the channels.

Pros

  • The app offers a unique interface.
  • It doesn’t require any sensitive permissions.

Cons

  • The downloading speed is slower than other YouTube video downloaders.
  • Snaptube requires a separate app to play videos in the download menu.
  • The app sends many notifications.

VidMate

This is a new app on the list. I have tried Vidmate before and I did again to see anything different. The app can download videos fine, but the same old issue of asking for the sensitive permissions is annoying. If you can find some other app from the list, then do that before trying this app.

Pros

  1. The app can download content from over 30 services.

Cons

  1. It asks for calls, contacts, and location permissions.

Not very good apps

Videoder – Videoder no longer downloads YouTube videos. Back then it used to, but if you go to YouTube in the app and try to download a video, it says “YouTube is not supported”.

OGYouTube – At first, the app asked to download an extension, which I did, but it could not download videos. Every time, I hit the download button the app shows [An error occurred. Invalid parameters].

WonTube – The app is easy to install, but it does not play, nor it downloads. The app freezes quite often while navigating.

arkTube – arkTube is a premium YouTube video downloader. The app can be installed for free, however, it requires a donation package app from Google Play to do anything. Without the app, you only get to see the settings screen.

I also tested Vuclip, TubeX, YouTube Downloader for Android, and YT3 YouTube Downloader for Android, but those apps either ask for sensitive permissions like accounts info, device identity and get access to contacts, or do not download the videos at all. I would recommend you to download one of the above YouTube video downloaders for Android to download YouTube videos securely.

Conclusion

By asking for sensitive permissions, apps are stealing your data and selling to other companies. Always keep yourself away from these apps. I hope the blog post helped, please feel free to share your views and let me know so we can discuss more. Also, if you know any other app, please inform me.

  1. Hi there. I came to your site because I needed a good quality review for a video downloader and esp. since most of the ones I was using before have been blocked by YouTube. Why I’m commenting is because I want you to update this article and in particular re-review VidMate. This was the last downloader I used before going on a search for new one. VidMate now only allows you to playback downloaded videos via their own third party player which makes it an awfully bad choice. Still worse you cannot share the video anywhere
