4 Ways for: How to Hide Apps on Android Device

Thanks to Android, we have the power to do more than we can expect with our phones. There can be any reason for someone to hide an app on their Android device. The problem is, a pure Android device does not offer to hide apps, but users use different tactics to achieve a solution to this conundrum. The blog post covers how to hide apps on Android and not just one, four ways to do that. Please note that we at least one third-party app in methods 2,3 and 4 to achieve that as there isn’t an option to go into files and add some code.

Find a built-in method

If you have any of the Samsung, OnePlus, Honor, or Xiaomi phones, then there is most probably an integrated way of hiding apps.

Samsung Galaxy – Hide Apps Feature

There are two ways to hide apps on Samsung devices. The first is:

  1. Long press on the Home Screen.
  2. Touch on Home screen settings.
  3. Touch on the Hide apps option
  4. Choose the apps to hide and touch on apply.

The second method is using the Secure Folder. Secure Folder is a separate OS which comes with new Samsung devices. To use, drop the notification panel and find the option Secure Folder. Enable the feature and find the app Secure Folder. The app requires a Samsung account and a method to secure the folder (PIN, fingerprint, etc.). After that, install the app you want to hide on your device and add the app to the secure folder and delete the original app. That’s it; you are done.

  1. In the app drawer, swipe to the right from the left edge.
  2. A window will show with hidden space option.
  3. Select the apps you want to hide after touching on the edit button.

  1. Pinch out on the home screen.
  2. Touch on the add button.
  3. A window will show with all the installed apps.
  4. Select the apps you want to add.

Installing a Launcher

For other brands, installing a launcher is the easiest way to hide apps. Now, a launcher completely changes the look of your device. So, you will have to be careful while installing a launcher app. The below launchers offer to hide apps on Android:

  1. Microsoft Launcher
  2. Apex Launcher
  3. POCO Launcher 2.0

Read this blog post to find all 16 launcher apps which provide this feature. You will also see the interface of many launcher apps to help you decide.

Using apps hiding app

The second option is to install an app to hide apps. There are many, but I personally like Calculator Vault. The app is smart enough to trick your friends. The app behaves like a calculator until you don’t insert the password. The app not only hides the apps, but it can also hide photos and videos. Once you have added apps, you can delete the original apps. The problem with this setup though is if anyone delete’s the vault app, all the data of hidden apps will be deleted.

Changing the icon and the name

Another way is to change the icon and name of the app. This is the least secure method as anyone can open the app by just touching. Another issue with this method is you need an app to achieve that because the Quickstep (default launcher) does not offer to change the icon and name of the apps. The app APK Editor is one of the apps which offer to permanently change the name and icon. Permanently means until you don’t uninstall the app. Here is how to use the app:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Choose APK from the list you have the app installed.
  3. Select the app which you want to edit.
  4. Next, you will see a window with three options. Select the Common Edit option.
  5. There will be options to change the name and icon at the top.
  6. Tap on save.
  7. Uninstall the original app and install the edited app.

Some launcher apps also offer to change the name and icon. Try Nova or Microsoft, which has the built-in capability of changing the name and icon for the installed apps.

There might be other ways to hide apps on Android, but the above ones are popular. I hope the blog posted helped. Please share your views in the comments below so we can discuss more.
